Our aim is to alter the discourse on faith-based violence by raising awareness of Takfiri DSW (Deobandi Salafi Wahhabi) ideology and its role in militancy in the Muslim world. We want to assist in the creation of better policy by ensuring informed, nuanced debate. Such initiatives will help us galvanize the international community to protect the rights of minorities suffering from DSW violence and persecution. Our educational initiatives will seek to present an alternative and more tolerant discourse of Islam that is sensitive to the nuance and multi-faced nature of historical Islam in all of its academic fields.
Plenary 2 – Social Movements, Glocal Perspectives, & Coalition Building for Change Join this dynamic and lively round table conversation that will address the complex array of social justice issues involved in some of today’s social movements. Discussing the intersectional politics and coalition building needed to create meaningful change for our communities, panelists will consider local and global contexts for their work addressing racism, lgbtqi issues, immigration, women’s reproductive rights, access to healthcare, and more.
